Highschool

Dating In Highschool

We all go through that phase of falling head over heels for someone in high school. Usually known as your first crush; or second. We all know how romantic it would be to marry your high school crush, but unfortunately this rarely ever happens. Yes, it is possible to marry someone you went to school with, but starting the relationship at a young age and making it last is almost impossible.

Many people have made the mistake of jumping into a relationship during their high school years, and then having their hearts broken when it doesn't work out. Of course, it is still possible for a relationship which occurs in your adult years to not work out. However, when this happens both people are mature, usually more serious about finding the right person to spend their life with and know how to handle the situation better.

High school alone is difficult and can be quite stressful when you pair it with making friends, family, homework, assignments and even work. So if you think about it, when would you have the time for a relationship?

High school is the time in your life where you are supposed to have fun and explore new things. It was never meant to be where you find the person you will spend your life with. Instead of allowing yourself to participate in the dating game while you are still in high school, the best thing you can do for yourself is to focus on you and learn who you are. How can you expect to find the right person, if you do not know yourself?  Learn how to live without relying on someone else. Figure out what your goals and ambitions. Learn about your body and how it works. Learn who you are and what you want to do with your life as you grow older.

Another thing to consider is there is no such thing as a real "man" or "woman" in high school. The boys and girls around you are still growing and their maturity level is lower compared to what they will be as an adult. They are still trying to figure out who they are themselves. Boys, in particular, take a lot longer to mature than girls, so even if you find yourself crushing on someone in your last year of school, there is still a high chance they have not figured out who they are.

Maturity is a big thing in a relationship. This is something girls and boys of young ages lack due to less life experience. Maturity is all about life experience. Life experience is what allows you to identify what is right and wrong. Life experience is what allows you to identify what is serious or fun. In high school, everything is supposed to be fun. This is why you hear stories of two young and embarrassed teenagers giggling and laughing before they kiss, but this is not what real affection looks like. Real affection can be somewhat embarrassing with a new partner, but it is a serious action between two mature adults who know exactly what they want in life and who they are.

There is a huge difference between a highschool relationship and a real adult relationship. When two young teenagers form a relationship, they usually expect it to be like what their parents have. In all truth, dating in high school is far from the real thing. You may be telling yourself you are ready for a relationship in your highschool years, but is everyone else around you?

Rather than wasting your experience on childish relationships that don't work out, wait until you have gotten to the point in your life where you know exactly who you are and what you want. Leave your "first kiss", "first date" or "first boyfriend" until you are mature and ready, as these tend to be special things for most girls. Use this time of your life with its real purpose, which is having fun, learning and figuring out who you are.
