When first introducing yourself to crystal healing, it can be quite overwhelming to know which crystals are the best to start with due to the large variety. I thought it would be a wonderful idea to write this post to help you begin your journey into working with crystals and their energy. Now usually I'd recommend letting your intuition choose the right stones for you (you might get a good feeling in your gut or you feel naturally drawn to it), as crystals do choose their owners. However, it can still be overwhelming due to the number of different crystals around you. It's even more difficult if you're new to working with your intuition. To make this easier, let's break down the process into smaller 'steps'.
As a beginner to crystal healing, it is best to start with tumbled stones as they tend to be a lot more affordable compared to the larger ones. Now you're probably wondering why I suggest starting with tumble stones? There are a few reasons why I suggest this. The first thing to keep in mind is the price. Yes, it can be tempting to purchase the larger and 'more beautiful' crystals, however the last thing you want to do is jump into purchasing a $400 standing Labradorite freeform and then realise you're not ready for working with crystals or it doesn't interest you as much as you thought. From what I have found, tumbled stones can range between $1AUD up to an 'estimate' of $60AUD. The price really depends on the individual stone, its rarity and the size of the stone (The higher the rarity of the stone, the more it may cost). Another benefit to starting with tumbled stones is you automatically have the ability to carry them with you throughout the day. It would be somewhat tricky carrying around a 3.5KG Amethyst cluster in your pocket, don't you think? Tumble stones are light in weight and small in size, which means they are perfect for transporting in your pocket, wallet or even worn as jewellery.
Now that we have gotten what shape you should be looking for out of the way, let's talk about what type of crystal to look for. Below I have written a list of a few crystals I truly believe are the best to begin your healing crystal journey with. Within the list, I have written a small description of each crystal and their healing properties. Of course, if you have another crystal in mind that isn't on this list, purchase it aswell. It truly depends on what feels right for you.
Clear Quartz
Colour: Clear
Rarity: Very Common
Known as the 'master healer' or 'stone of power', Quartz is the most powerful energy-producing crystal on this planet. It acts as an 'energy filter' which absorbs and transforms unwanted energies (absorb, store, release) to remove blockages, balancing the chakras and enhancing your healing ability. Quartz aids with unlocking memories, concentration and brings your body to balance. It awakens you to cosmic forces, enhance physic abilities and attunes you with your spiritual purpose.
Rose Quartz
Colour: Pink
Rarity: Easily Obtained
Working with your heart chakra, Rose Quartz is known as one of the most important stones as it is the source for energies of unconditional love and peace. It helps open and purifies the heart chakra, as well as enable deep inner healing, self-love, restores trust and absorbs negative energies which is replaced with peaceful and loving vibes. It's calming and reassuring properties are beneficial when healing from Trauma or an unpleasant incident that may occur. Rose Quartz is also known as the stone of "romance", as it attracts love and fertility.
Amethyst
Colour: Purple to Lavender
Rarity: One of the most common crystals.
With its high spiritual vibrations, Amethyst is an extremely powerful and protective crystal. Known to be extremely beneficial to the mind. It protects from physic attack, stress, negative environmental energies, as the stone absorbs negative energy and transforms it into loving energy. It enhances higher states of consciousness and meditation due to its serenity. Helps with insomnia and recurrent nightmares. Enhances calm thoughts, memory, motivation and promotes emotional balance.
Black Tourmaline
Colour: Black
Rarity: Easy to Obtain.
Black Tourmaline transforms dense energies into a much lighter vibration. It helps to find a balance for all seven chakras. Connecting with the Base Chakra, it forms a protective shield around the body to protect against radiation, psychic attack, ill-wishing and negative energies of any kind. It helps ground energy and increases physical vitality, removes tension and releases stress.
Keep in mind, this list is only a brief guide to give you an idea of what to look for. It all depends on what your intuition is telling you what you need.
Once you have an idea of what type of stone you are looking for, it time to let your intuition take control. For your first introduction to crystals, I recommend visiting your local crystal store rather than purchasing online. By visiting a local store, you are allowing yourself the opportunity to connect with each crystal before purchasing. Keep in mind, a crystal chooses their carrier.
One thing to remember when choosing crystals, take your time. Let the crystals speak to you. Ask the store worker to direct you to where they display the tumbles of the stone you are after. Sort through all of the available tumble stones the store has. Find one that you feel drawn to (You will feel a strong pull towards or need for the crystal). Once you find the right one, you will know you have found it.

The feeling you get when you find the right crystals of you, is honestly one of the best feelings. If you don't have access to a local crystal store, you could always try purchasing online. The seller will intuitively choose a stone for you, or you can simply contact them and ask them to send you a photo or video of a few of the tumbles they have to allow you to choose your own.
