Things To Always Say No To...

Updated: Dec 24, 2019

Saying the word "no" to someone can be quite a challenge for most people. What is even more difficult is figuring out when is the right time to say "no" in a situation. I thought it would be a good idea to make a list of a few situations which you SHOULD always be saying that two-letter word to.

Say NO when:

  • Something doesn't feel right - If your intuition is telling you something is not right, don't ignore it. In most cases, your intuition is correct.

  • You don't feel safe - At any time if you don't feel 100% safe in a certain location, being around specific people or participating in a particular action or event, don't do it. There is definitely something wrong in a situation if you don't feel 100% safe. This feeling is your intuition telling you to flee, it is best for you to do so.

  • You're not ready - Never allow someone to guilt you into doing something you don't feel ready for. No matter if it's sex, a new 'fun' activity, moving forward in a relationship or friendship, going to somewhere you've never been or just simply trying something new, you should only ever do something if you feel 100% about doing it.

  • Guilt - Never give in to guilt! Whether it's a friend asking you to do something you feel uneasy about or your new partner feels ready to become intimate with you, don't allow them to force you into doing what they want through guilt. Doing something you don't want to just to make someone happy, isn't right.

  • Being someone you're not - Yes, there will be times where we find someone we really like or want to be friends with, and you want to impress them by pretending to be someone you're not. Don't do it. Pretending to like something when you don't or acting a different way isn't who you are. By doing this, you are hiding your true identity and giving a false impression. If someone doesn't like you for who you are, then it's their loss. No one should ever make you believe there is a better version than you. Your current self is your true self.

  • Resisting growth - Some people truly do not like change. I am one of those people, as I am a very routine-based person. However, if we stick to our routines or the things we are already aware of, how can we learn about other aspects of this world? My advice: "Try it once and if you don't like it, that's okay".

  • Resisting healing - Healing is one of the most important things we need to do as we grow. When we are ready to, we need to release the negative emotions from our bodies to allow us to move forward in peace. Happiness is truly the best thing in life. However, bottling up unwanted emotional energies can make this difficult. Some energies are harder to release than others. However, if you focus on the things around you that make you happy and glue the thought of happiness into your mind, it will come around sooner then you expect.

  • The belief that you're not enough - You are enough! You are a unique individual and there is not a single human being on this planet like you. This world would be so boring if everyone was the same, so just be you and love yourself for who you are!

Never feel afraid to say "no" to something. You have every right to not do something or go somewhere if you truly do not want to. No one can force you if you don't give them an opportunity to.
